Maths Tuition

If your child has a diagnosis of dyslexia, there is a high chance that they may also be having difficulties with their maths - this is known as dyscalculia.  As with dyslexia, there are varying levels in the severity of the difficulties experienced.  With maths being such a wide-ranging subject, difficulties might only present themselves in a few areas or they may be present across the majority of the maths curriculum.  In order to help children with their maths, different teaching approaches need to be applied.  These include:

  • Using a multi-sensory approach.

  • Using concrete experiences to ensure understanding of a concept before moving on to abstract learning.

  • Using a cumulative approach.

  • Ensuring the teacher has lots of different approaches that they can use to help the student grasp a particular concept.
